April 1 was no fools day here in Canon City! A spectacular day, sunshine, mid 60's, blue skies and little wind made for a near perfect day for the 2023 Canon Car Club Garage tour.
The tour started at 8am, though the usual suspects were early, at A-1 / Pikes Peak Motors in Penrose. Coffee and doughnuts were a nice jump start. It was obvious from the get-go that this was probably going to be a bigger event than we'd anticipated. I still lust after that last Ford-powered wooden boat.
Next stop was T-A Customs - home of some of the finest paint and body men in the area.
Next was a member garage with a slant toward Ford powered cars from the 60's. The group filled up all the paved lot and overflowed into the "back 40"!
The Tezak stop was next and the likely highlight of the tour. We were led through 4 or 5 buildings, each with more amazing memoribilia than the last.
Fast Eddy's in downtown Canon City was next. Home to some very fast dragsters and very high end engine development. Very cool to see one of the projects on the test stand.
Last was Keven's Hot Rod Service. A smaller unassuming shop but home to national award-winning custom cars (and our fearless club President). And, most importantly, LUNCH!
The club would like to thank all the hosts for opening their shops and garages for the tour.
Thank you to Dorsey and the Colorado Springs Rod and Custom club as well as Ted and the Pueblo Outlaws. Your joining us made this an even bigger and better event, thanks!
Also thanks to Don, Grant, Rod (and many others!) for help with both parking chores and manning the grilles at Keven's and all the sides dishes and desserts.
And last, special thanks to Keven and his team for organizing the day - by all accounts, a great time was had by all!
PS - 2 Demerits to the photographers! 2 original 66 Shelby GT350's and not one in the pictures!
